Friends of the Waterloo Public Library Champion Lifelong Learning Through New Fund

We’re excited to share that the Friends of the Waterloo Public Library Fund is part of the Waterloo Community Foundation!

The Friends group has long been a champion for the Waterloo Public Library and is celebrating its 50th year, supporting everything from book collections and welcoming spaces to engaging programs and community outreach. Through membership, fundraising, advocacy, and the Friends Used Book Shop, the Friends group is a key partner in promoting literacy and lifelong learning throughout our community.

Every summer, Friends of the Waterloo Public Library provides generous support for the Youth Summer Library Program, which brings hundreds of kids into the library for creative, curiosity-sparking events like Mess Fest, Lego Lab, and the Summer Carnival. These programs don’t just offer fun, but also help grow young readers, thinkers, and explorers.

“The library is more than just a place for books – it’s a place where people of all ages can discover, imagine, and connect. Friends of the Waterloo Public Library expands opportunities the library offers, bringing programs and experiences to life that enrich our community,” says Terry Seliga, President of Friends of the Waterloo Public Library.

The Friends of the Waterloo Public Library Fund was created to ensure that this kind of support continues for years to come. The fund provides lasting support for the Library’s facilities, collections, programs, activities, and projects, strengthening its role as a welcoming and essential community resource.
