Windows on Waterloo Webinar Series – Earth Protection: Local Solutions for a Sustainable Future

This September, the Waterloo Community Foundation is pleased to present a special three-part Windows on Waterloo series exploring key issues in earth protection and how they connect to the future of our community. Through conversations with local experts, we’ll examine how these challenges affect the Cedar Valley, highlight practical solutions, and share simple actions each of us can take to make a difference.

This presentation explores how transportation choices shape both our environment and our quality of life. Brenda Vavroch of INRCOG and Abbie Christophersen of the Mid-Iowa Planning Alliance will discuss trail connectivity, the growing role of e-bikes, electric vehicle infrastructure in our region, and practical considerations for those interested in adopting more sustainable transportation options.

Renewable Energy: Local Solutions to a Global Challenge
Wednesday, September 23 at 11 AM

Jordan Oster of the Iowa Environmental Council will share insights into Iowa’s changing energy landscape, including increasing electricity demand, renewable energy opportunities, and ways households and organizations can reduce energy use while incorporating renewable energy into everyday life.

This special series is made possible through the generosity of the Ike Leighty family. In addition to supporting these educational conversations, the Leighty family is funding targeted grants to local organizations working in each of these focus areas, helping strengthen the work already happening in our community.

We hope you’ll join us for one presentation or all three as we learn together, explore local solutions, and discover ways we can all contribute to a healthier, more sustainable Waterloo.

Community members may join these free online presentation by visiting https://wloocommunityfoundation.org/learning-opportunities/ or by contacting the Foundation’s Program Manager, Paige Price, at paige.price@wloocommunityfoundation.org.
