Waterloo Community Foundation Announces New Board Members

The Waterloo Community Foundation is naming four new members to the Board of Directors in 2025. The Foundation’s locally-focused Board is comprised of fourteen members who have diverse backgrounds and experiences. Each is tied to the Waterloo community.

The new Board members include:

Katy Poe Harbaugh – Katy is a Waterloo native graduating from West High School and earning her BA from the University of Northern Iowa with a Business Management major, minor in Spanish and certificate in International Business. She joined Standard Distribution Co., her family’s warehousing and distribution services business, in 2004 in an operational role and has been serving as the Human Resources Manager since 2019. She has a passion for all things Waterloo as she has served as a board member for the Waterloo Youth Hockey Association and Jr. Wahawks Softball. 

Rudy Jones – Rudy received his B.S. in Business Administration and Management from North Carolina A&T State University and is currently the Director for the City of Waterloo Community Development Department. Rudy has served on multiple boards and currently serves on the board of the Waterloo Housing Trust Fund as a voting member. By virtue of his position in the city, he has been exposed and involved in numerous programs, projects and endeavors in Waterloo. He plans to bring to the board a knowledge of connectivity and continuity in the community’s current and future aspirations.

Mersiha Mustedanagic – Mersiha has been in the real estate industry for seven years and served as the Northeast Iowa Regional Board of Realtors President in 2024. She loves to help anywhere she can, and her background includes multiple customer service experiences. Currently she serves as a board member for Kud Kolo. She plans to bring diversity, strategic thinking and her creative vision to the Waterloo Community Foundation.

Phil Nash – Phil earned his Bachelor’s degree with a major in Finance from Iowa State University. He spent 15 years with Wells Fargo and recently transitioned to Community Bank &Trust Commercial Banking in October 2023. Phil has served as a board member for multiple organizations in the Cedar Valley and is excited to learn more about the Foundation and put his skills to use.

Waterloo Community Foundation Board President Steve Carignan praised the selection of these individuals for the Board of Directors. “We are so thrilled to welcome our new group of Board members that are committed to helping Waterloo grow and thrive,” said Carignan. “Their love and dedication for Waterloo combined with their diverse backgrounds will truly show through in their efforts to make a meaningful impact for our community.”

Retiring members of the Board include Sam Holden, Lori Johnson, Chuck Rowe, and Dr. Lance Vanderloo.
